Hyundai moving back to Sunday
The PGA Tour announced that the Hyundai Tournament of Champions will go back to a Sunday finish in 2016. The first event of the year has run Friday-Monday since 2012.
The TOC returns to Kapalua’s Plantation Course on Maui Jan. 7-10. It is the only event on the schedule that features all winners from the previous calendar year.
This January, Patrick Reed defeated Jimmy Walker on the first playoff hole. Walker went on to defend his Sony Open in Hawaii title the next week on Oahu.
Hawaii’s USGA teamqualifier at Leilehua
A one-day qualifier will be held to pick the Hawaii team for the USGA Women’s Team Championship. The qualifier will be June 15 at Leilehua, starting at 8:30 a.m.
The lowest three players will make up the team that will go to Cape Giradeau, Mo. Females golfers of any age are eligible, but the NCAA does not allow college players to compete.
The Hawaii State Womens Golf Foundation will be giving a stipend of $1,000 to each qualifier to help with expenses.

U.S. Open deadline fast approaching
April 29 is the deadline to enter the U.S. Open, which will hold local qualifiers at Ka‘anapali May 9 and Waialae May 11.
The 36-hole U.S. Women’s Open sectional qualifier is also May 9 at Ka‘anapali. Deadline to enter that event is May 6.
Participants must submit entries online at usga.org. They can also enter the U.S. Senior Open local qualifier, May 20 at Hoakalei, and the U.S. Junior and Girls Junior Amateur qualifiers, which will be June 23-24 at The Club at Kukui‘ula.
This year’s U.S. Open is at Chambers Bay in Washington, June 18-21. Michelle Wie will defend her U.S. Women’s Open title July 9-12 at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania.
bAfter ending the Hawaii Pearl Open’s 35-year run in 2013, Pearl Country Club is starting the Pearl Invitational this summer. The 54-hole tournament is for amateurs.
Entry forms are out for the inaugural event, which is June 25-27. The field is limited to 144, with Championship (0-5 handicap), A (5-10), B (11-15) and Senior Flights.
Cost is $195 and entry deadline is June 8, with a $25 late fee for those registering after June 8.
