Raquel Ek’s best three days of her college career helped the Rainbow Wahine golf team post its highest finish in a conference tournament since 2010.
The sophomore turned in career-best scores for a round and a tournament to finish second at the Big West championships, which ended Tuesday at El Macero Country Club in Davis, Calif.
Her three-day total of 3-under par 213 led UH to a runner-up finish in the team standings, and the Wahine placed three golfers in the top 10.
Ek opened the tournament with an even-par 72 on Sunday then set a career low with a 68 in the second round and entered the final day one shot out of the lead.
She remained in contention for the individual title into the back nine before UC Davis’ Andrea Wong pulled away to win at 8 under. Ek finished the day at 1-over 73. She and Wong were the only players to finish under par for the tournament.
Ek was an All-Big West honorable mention pick while fellow sophomore Izzy Leung, who tied for 10th in the tournament at 8 over, made the second team. Nichole Cruz finished seventh at 5 over.
