Walgreen Co., the nation’s largest drugstore chain, is marking another recent expansion milestone in Hawaii with a grand opening Sunday of its store at Market City in Kaimuki.
The store, which opened about a month ago, is the company’s 19th statewide and follows the February opening of a new two-story flagship store in Honolulu at the corner of Kapiolani Boulevard and Keeaumoku Street, where the retailer opened its first Hawaii store in 2007 in a former Tower Records building.
At Market City, Walgreens reconfigured space previously occupied by Fun Factory and other stores at the shopping center anchored by Foodland.
The Market City store includes a Cafe W that offers pre-made sandwiches, salads, fresh fruit and other food. The store is open 24 hours a day.
The company previously said its goal is to open 25 to 30 Hawaii stores.
