2 homeless men charged in assaults
Two homeless men were charged Wednesday with assault in separate incidents, with one involving an attack on a police officer and the other, security guards.
Charged with first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer and terroristic threatening is Thomas McMellen, 31, who reported no local address. McMellen also is charged with four contempt citations. His bail was set at $30,000. Officers arrested McMellen Tuesday afternoon in Salt Lake.
Officers arrested Arnold Fitzpatrick, 45, at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Kahala Hotel and Resort, where he allegedly brandished a knife and threatened two security guards.
Fitzpatrick, who also has no local address, is charged with first-degree terroristic threatening and third-degree assault. His bail was set at $20,000.
Coast Guard looks for missing mariner
The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a mariner who reported his boat was flooding about 10 miles south of Honolulu Harbor.
The Coast Guard says a mariner aboard the vessel Kolea sent out a mayday call over VHF channel 16 at 6:37 a.m. Thursday.
Officials say they don’t know how many people were aboard the boat or what the vessel looks like.
Coast Guard airplane and helicopter crews were searching for the man along with boat crews.
