2 hospitalized in separate ocean incidents
A man was in critical condition and a boy in serious condition Saturday after separate water-related incidents on Oahu.
Lifeguards were alerted by another swimmer about an unresponsive man in the water at Makapuu Beach about 12:30 p.m., according to Ocean Safety spokeswoman Shayne Enright. The lifeguards brought the man back to shore and performed CPR on him and he regained consciousness. Paramedics took over treatment and took the man, who was in his 40s or 50s, to the hospital in critical condition, she said.
About the same time, a 9-year-old boy swallowed water after another child apparently jumped off a rock and landed on him at Eternity Beach near Koko Crater. An ambulance crew took the boy to a hospital in serious condition.
