When an injury forced a change in goal, Sarah Logan made sure the switch wouldn’t damage Hawaii’s quest for the Big West women’s water polo title.

A starter earlier in the season, Logan jumped into the pool as a reserve when Ymane Hage suffered a shoulder injury in the third quarter of UH’s first-round match against Long Beach State last Friday.

She made a save on a penalty shot early in the fourth quarter "and it just changed the entire momentum of the game," UH coach Maureen Cole said.

The Wahine advanced with a 7-5 win and Logan stuffed a last-second attempt to preserve a 6-5 victory over Cal State Northridge in the semifinals.

Logan was a wall in the first half of the championship match against UC Irvine on Sunday, stopping six shots as UH jumped out to a 4-1 halftime lead. She ended the night with a career-high 10 saves and the Wahine pulled out a 9-8 win in overtime to capture its second Big West crown in three years.

"She’s really what fueled us in (the Long Beach) win and just kept it going and played incredible throughout the weekend," Cole said.
