Kari Villabrille gathers all materials for lei preparation the way she was taught by two kumu hula: by hand, being careful to avoid overpicking the plant life she seeks. This was the preparation layout for the haku, or arranged lei she made for the 2014 Kamehameha Da Parade, using a variety of fresh tropical flowers and spring florals.
