The top-ranked Hawaii Pacific men’s tennis team beat No. 49 Bluefield State 5-0 in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Championships on Thursday at Surprise, Ariz.
Marko Lenz and Yann Renault swept their singles matches for the Sharks (23-0).
In doubles, Maik Burlage and Lenz, Clemens Graute and Jaume Martinez-Vich, and Thibaud Berland and Renault won matches.
HPU will face No. 4 Armstrong State Friday in the semifinals.
BYU-Hawaii women’s tennis advances
The No. 3 Brigham Young-Hawaii women’s tennis team defeated No. 13 St. Mary’s (Texas) 5-1 in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Championships on Thursday at Surprise, Ariz.
Marietta Tuionetoa, Kanela Adamson and Nannan Zhang won singles matches for the Seasiders (32-1).
In doubles, BYU-Hawaii’s Adamson and Jade Griffin, and Min Liu and Zhang won their matches.
The Seasiders will play No. 2 Barry Friday in the semifinals.
Hitchcock makes all-region team
University of Hawaii pitcher Brittany Hitchcock has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I All-West Region third team, released Thursday.
Hitchcock, a freshman from Huntington Beach, Calif., finished the season with an 18-7 record and a team-best 2.37 ERA.
Earlier this week, Hitchcock was named to the all-Big West second team and all-freshman team.
