Hawaii island police have charged an 18-year-old man in connection with the killing of his father on Saturday morning.
According to police, officers responding to a 9:15 a.m. domestic disturbance call arrived at a Fern Acres residence and found paramedics attending to 47-year-old Jeffrey Kelly.
Kelly was transported to Hilo Medical Center, where he later died.
Kelly’s son, Forrest Keesler, was arrested at the scene. He was charged Sunday with second-degree murder.
Keesler is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail. His initial court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.
Molokai ferry operator wants flexible schedule
WAILUKU » Sea Link of Hawaii withdrew last week its petition to reduce its twice-daily ferry route between Molokai and Maui and intends to submit a new petition to run the ferry only on an "as-needed" basis, according to company President Dave Jung.
He said the ferry would still "be able to take care of high school teams and peak periods, but running on a rigid schedule doesn’t make much sense."
He said he intends to submit the new petition to the state Public Utilities Commission this week, the Maui News reported Thursday.
Sea Link of Hawaii filed a petition in March to reduce service to one round trip per day; berth overnight in Lahaina instead of Kaunakakai; and make the Sunday voyage optional.
But Jung said those concessions would not be enough after Makani Kai Airlines announced it would add six daily round-trip flights between Molokai and Maui starting June 1.
