The University of Hawaii softball team continued to add depth to the infield with the signing of third baseman Carly Pina of Upland, Calif.
Pina hit .308 for St. Lucy’s Priory High School this season and was an honorable mention all-league selection. She also hit six home runs for the Firecrackers club team last summer. She is the sixth incoming freshman to sign with the Rainbow Wahine.
Harrison is top freshman in Pac-12
Oregon State’s K.J. Harrison, a 2014 Punahou graduate, was named the Pac-12 baseball freshman of the year on Tuesday.
Harrison, one of only two freshmen also named to the All-Pac-12 first team, led the conference with 58 RBIs during the regular season and hit .314 with 12 doubles, three triples and 10 home runs, which ranked third in the conference.
Harrison was one of two Beavers to start all 55 games for Oregon State (38-16-1), which finished second in the Pac-10 at 19-10-1.
Oregon State will make its seventh consecutive postseason appearance in the Dallas Regional on Friday as the No. 2 seed against Texas. Dallas Baptist is the top seed in the regional.
