Kaimuki Christian School is poised to break ground on its newest building, the Clarence T.C. Ching Educational Center.
The center will include three multipurpose rooms, two additional classrooms and expanded school administrative offices. It will adjoin a recently completed classroom building along Harding Avenue. Kaimuki Christian Church is situated on the school’s campus.
The center’s groundbreaking is set for Tuesday, and the facility is slated to open in July 2016.
The school is paying for the building with a fundraising campaign along with a $1.5 million matching grant from the Clarence T.C. Ching Foundation, a news release said.
Kaimuki Christian School, 1117 Koko Head Ave., opened in 1968 with classes from preschool through sixth grade. A middle school was added in 1995, and in 2012 the school formed its first ninth-grade class.
Principal Mark Gallagher said in the news release, "Over the past 10 years, KCS has experienced a growth in enrollment from 212 to 320 students. KCS will have its first graduating high school class in 2016," and the new center is an important component of the church and school’s master plan.
