A 53-year-old Hono­lulu police officer is scheduled for trial in Kane­ohe District Court next month for allegedly breaking into a home in Kane­ohe on Wednesday night.

Richard Staszyn, an eight-year veteran of the police force, is charged with second-degree criminal trespass and fourth-degree criminal property damage. Both charges are misdemeanors.

He has been placed on restricted duty.

Staszyn was caught trying to break into a Kane­ohe residence at 8:25 p.m. after a woman called police saying a man was trying to force his way into her house.

His trial is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. July 23.
