A 20-year-old Kailua-Kona man hospitalized with a laceration to his forearm after a domestic dispute June 21 died of his injuries Sunday.

Ezra Barro was pronounced dead at 4:44 a.m. Sunday at Kaiser Medical Center on Oahu, Hawaii island police said in a news release.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The case, which was being handled as a first-degree assault, is now being investigated as a manslaughter.

Police released without charges an 18-year-old Kailua-Kona woman who was arrested June 22 after the domestic dispute sent Barro to the hospital in critical condition. A second abuse investigation was initiated with the woman as the victim.

An investigation revealed that the man had received the injury during a domestic altercation at an Awakea Street home in Kailua-Kona.
