Showing one’s love of country on the Fourth of July is perfectly fine. And this time of year stores are happy to oblige anyone willing to go all out in donning the symbols and colors of our nation, the Stars and Stripes, and red, white and blue.
But do you really want to look like you should be waving from the top of a flagpole?
Luckily, reds, whites and blues are summer colors that look great mixed and matched in any configuration, allowing you to pledge your allegiance to our flag without turning into one.

Ala Moana Center to host Independence Day events
Ala Moana Center will host its 24th annual Fourth of July celebration Friday through Sunday, with entertainment and shopping deals, highlighted by a free fireworks show beginning 8:30 p.m. Saturday, launched from Ala Moana Beach Park.
A 20 percent Savings Pass will be valid throughout the event at nearly 80 participating merchants. Visit AlaMoanaCenter.com to print out a pass, or pick one up at the Guest Services offices near the Makai Market Food Court.
There will also be a drawing for two tickets to the 2015 iHeart Radio Music Festival in Las Vegas. The winner will receive round-trip airfare for two from Honolulu to Las Vegas and a five-night stay at the California Hotel & Casino, Sept. 16-21, courtesy of Vacations Hawaii. Entry forms will be on Mall Level 2 near Louis Vuitton, or enter online at www.facebook.com/AlaMoanaCenter. No purchase is necessary, but there is a limit of one entry per person. Complimentary valet parking is offered during mall hours on the Mall Level 2 outside Banana Republic, Morton’s The Steakhouse and Longhi’s Restaurant. For those heading to the Fourth of July fireworks show, free parking also will be available after 1 p.m. Saturday at the Ala Moana Pacific Center (enter via Kona Street behind Shokudo) and in the Ala Moana Building (above Bank of Hawaii). — Nadine Kam
