Ocean Safety personnel started what is traditionally one of their busiest long weekends of the year with a pair of morning rescues Friday in Makapuu.
At about 11:15 a.m., Ocean Safety personnel responded to an emergency call at the Makapuu tide pools, where a 22-year-old woman was injured after being knocked over by a wave.
A rescue watercraft was used to retrieve the woman, who declined transport to a hospital.
At about 11:50 a.m., lifeguards assisted a 51-year-old man who hit his head on the shoreline at Makapuu Beach. The man was transported in serious condition to a trauma center.
Argument leads to arrest of McCully man
A 64-year-old McCully man is in custody after he allegedly punched another man and then tried to run down a security guard while attempting to flee from a Keeaumoku Street parking lot.
Police said the incident occurred at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday when the suspect allegedly punched a 33-year-old man during an argument. The suspect then allegedly tried to hit a 60-year-old security guard who stood in front of the car during his getaway.
The suspect was later found at his Date Street home and arrested on suspicion of second- and third-degree assault.
Man critically hurt after fall into stream
A man believed to be in his 60s fell backward into Nuuanu Stream on Thursday and was reported in critical condition.
Emergency Medical personnel said the man was found floating by police and Fire Department personnel, and treated by paramedics before being taken to the hospital.
The incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m.
