Kauai police arrested a 20-year-old Kapaa man in connection with the assault of two chaperones and a teen from a California private outdoor school at Hanalei Pier on May 30.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of two counts of third-degree assault and one count of harassment. He was released pending an Aug. 19 appearance in Kauai District Court.
Improvements set for harbor
The state plans to develop a new pier at Maalaea Small Boat Harbor for the Lanai ferry and other vessels.
The $2.8 million project includes removing and replacing a badly deteriorated pier near the harbor’s new ferry terminal building, according to the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.
The work is scheduled to be finished in April.
Thieves strike bamboo nursery
Hawaii County police are investigating thefts of $3,000 in plants within a week from a bamboo nursery in Kapaau.
Sometime between July 5 and 7, $100 worth of potted plants was removed from a nursery on Pratt Road. Another $500 in plants was taken between Friday evening and Saturday morning, and $2,456 worth between Saturday night and Sunday morning.
