A 50-year-old man was in critical condition Tuesday after being found face-down in the lagoon at Hilton Hawaiian Village, Honolulu Emergency Medical Services reported.
Waikiki area beachgoers spotted the man, a visitor, at about 11:45 a.m., EMS spokesperson Shayne Enright said. He was brought to shore, where CPR was initiated by beachgoers. Lifeguards arrived by rescue watercraft and took over CPR until paramedics arrived and continued advanced life-saving treatment before transporting the man to an emergency room.
Teenager injured at blowhole trail
Fire personnel rescued a girl, 16, who was injured Tuesday while hiking at the 13 Koko Crater Blowhole Trail, also known as Koko Crater Arch Trail.
Capt. David Jenkins said the girl was holding onto a rock, which got loose, and fell on her.
Firefighters got the call at 3:28 p.m., arrived at 3:42 p.m. and got to the patient’s side at 3:59 p.m.
Firefighters transferred care to Emergency Medical Services, which reported the girl was in stable condition after the incident, and was taken by ambulance to a hospital.
Murder suspect remains in custody
A 34-year-old man with no local address who allegedly attacked a 54-year-old man in Kahuku July 8 was not charged, pending further investigation, police said Tuesday. But he remains in custody on other warrants.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder. He was transferred to Oahu Community Correctional Center pending further investigation and is awaiting trial for several outstanding bench warrants.
Police said the older man reported he was choked, stabbed and struck with a metal bar at 9:45 a.m. July 8.
