Polynesian hall adds pro football award
The Polynesian Football Hall of Fame has added to its annual awards presentation and will induct a Polynesian pro football player of the year beginning with its 2016 class.
The five finalists for the inaugural pro award will be announced Dec. 8, with the selection announced on Jan. 6. The formal presentation will be held at the celebration dinner during the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Weekend of Jan. 29 at the Hawaii Convention Center.
“Today, there are about 60 players of Polynesian ancestry on active NFL rosters,” said Ma’a Tanuvasa, vice chairman and co-founder. “We are proud that five of the first 66 players selected in this year’s NFL Draft were Polynesian.”
The enshrinement weekend also includes the induction of the Polynesian college football player of the year and the Class of 2016 on Jan. 30 at the Polynesian Cultural Center. The event includes an autograph session and canoe parade of the inductees.
The Class of 2016 , the third for the organization, will be announced on Oct. 7 and be comprised of four players and one coach or contributor.
