A 37-year-old North Kohala, Hawaii, man who was holed up in his home Monday night and Tuesday following a domestic disturbance, and who allegedly shot a woman and police officer, is set to appear in Kona District Court on Friday on 22 charges, including first-degree attempted murder.
Macdon D. Thromman was charged Thursday with three counts of first-degree attempted murder, one count of second-degree attempted murder, nine counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, one count of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, two firearm offenses and one count each of felony abuse of a family member, kidnapping, endangering the welfare of a minor and reckless endangering. Bail was set at $390,200.
Thromman was in his home for more than 20 hours after allegedly shooting his girlfriend and the police officer Monday night, and surrendered to police Tuesday afternoon.
The officer and the woman who sustained gunshot wounds were taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital for treatment following the 7:48 p.m. Monday incident at a home on the 53-4200 block of Akoni Pule Highway in Halaula, just outside of Hawi. Both were in stable condition Tuesday.
The wounded officer, 43, was struck in the arm, police said. The 32-year-old woman was shot in her thigh.
Pair held, drugs seized in stolen-car case
A Hilo man and a woman were arrested Tuesday after police spotted a stolen car in Kailua-Kona, police said.
Jeffrey Paul DeCastro Jr., 30, was charged Wednesday with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, contempt of court and other charges. His bail was set at $24,250.
Cherise King, 35, was charged Wednesday with driving without a license, two counts of promoting a dangerous drug and three counts of possessing drug paraphernalia. Her bail was set at $10,500.
On Sunday a 22-year-old Keaau man reported that the sedan he had been driving had been taken while he was at Malama Park in the Panaewa area of Hilo.
At 7:20 a.m. Tuesday a patrol officer spotted the stolen car on Hale Kapili Street in Kailua-Kona. Two male passengers fled from the car, and the female driver was arrested, police said.
An officer recognized one of the men, and a suspect was later arrested on Alii Drive in Kona.
Detectives recovered 0.9 gram of methamphetamine from the car, along with drug paraphernalia, police said.
