The Manoa Falls hiking trail will be closed from sunrise to noon on Monday and Tuesday while workers remove a hazardous tree, according to the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.
The trail will reopen at noon each day.
Hikers are asked to schedule their hikes in the afternoon. Trail information can be found at www.hawaiitrails.org.
State trails staff will close the Manoa Falls trail gate and post a "trail closed" sign.
Officers from the state Division of Conservation and Enforcement will be present to ensure public safety.
The beginning of the trail, one of Oahu’s most popular, crosses over a footbridge and then crosses a small stream through a grove of eucalyptus trees. The 0.8-mile trail gradually ascends through rain forest, ending at a viewing area set back from the base of the falls.
Minor damage cited in wheels-up landing
A 39-passenger twin-engine plane sustained only minor damage to the underside of its fuselage when it made a landing with its wheels up last month at Kalaeloa Airport, according to a preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board.
No one was injured in the incident, which occurred just before 7:44 p.m. June 29.
The Short Brothers SD3-60 was on a flight check, which had originated at Honolulu Airport, with two pilots.
The NTSB report said that prior to landing, the pilots thought they had completed a landing checklist.
As the plane’s nose was lowered, the forward bottom of the fuselage made contact with the runway, the report said. The SD3-60 is a propeller-driven commuter plane.
