State wrestling champions Teshya and Teniya Alo added national titles last week.
The sisters both won their weight classes at the ASICS/Vaughan Junior National wrestling tournament at Fargo, N.D.
Teshya, who won three state titles at Kamehameha, won the 139-pound class with stoppage wins in all five matches, her fifth national crown at the elite tournament. No other girl has won as many.
Teniya, who took a state crown for ‘Iolani as a freshman in March, beat Ricki Liang of California 15-5 in the championship at 121 pounds for her first title.
Teshya Alo was also named the ASICS High School Wrestler of the Year, the first athlete from Hawaii to be so honored. She will return to Kamehameha for her senior year and have a chance to repeat as the best wrestler in the nation.
Leilehua’s Liam Corbett was the most successful boy from team Hawaii in the Freestyle tournament, winning two matches and losing two at 152 pounds.
Viloria makes weight for fight
Former four-time world champion Brian Viloria weighed in at 112.8 pounds for his flyweight bout against Omar Soto on Saturday night in Hollywood, Calif.
The 34-year-old Viloria, who is 35-4 with 21 knockouts, faces Soto (23-11-2, 15 KOs) in a rematch of a 2010 fight in Mexico Viloria won by split decision.
A victory could set up a rematch with current champion Juan Francisco Estrada, who defeated Viloria by split decision for the WBA and WBO flyweight titles in 2013.
The fight will air at 8 p.m. Hawaii time delayed on UniMas TV. Soto weighed in at 114.4 pounds.
