University of Hawaii Hilo Chancellor Donald Straney announced his selection of Patrick Guillen as athletic director on Tuesday.
Guillen will oversee UH Hilo’s 12 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II athletic programs.
Guillen is the former director of Intercollegiate Athletics at California State University-Dominguez Hills in Carson, Calif.
While Guillen was posted at CSU Dominguez Hills, the men’s soccer team won national championships in 2000 and 2008, the women’s soccer team was 2009 national runner-up, the men’s basketball team was conference champion in 2011, the women’s basketball team was conference champion in 2009, the softball team was conference champion in 2005 and 2012, and the women’s track and field 4×100 team won the national championship in 2012.
The appointment is pending approval by UH President David Lassner.
