A Honolulu Police Department officer was charged with misdemeanor assault after being recorded on cellphone video allegedly throwing a Palolo man to the ground.
Siave Seti, 29, was charged with third-degree assault, according to the state Attorney General’s Office. He allegedly injured the Palolo Valley man in an incident on Feb. 24.
Hawaii News Now reported in March it had obtained a video of the man being thrown to the ground and Seti trying to grab the cellphone from a witness, even though he did not have a search warrant or a subpoena for the phone.
Seti was arraigned before Circuit Court Judge Lono Lee, pleaded not guilty and demanded a jury trial.
Papaikou man charged in theft of gun
Hawaii island police arrested a 26-year-old Papaikou man in connection with the theft of an antique pistol.
Chas Akiona, who was already in custody for an unrelated matter, was arrested Friday and charged with first-degree theft. His bail was set at $25,000.
Son indicted in $70,000 check fraud
A 36-year-old man was indicted this week in the theft of $70,000 from his mother.
Brian Paisley was indicted in Honolulu on three counts of second-degree forgery and one each of first-degree identity theft, first-degree theft and unauthorized possession of confidential personal information. His bail was set at $150,000.
An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment charging Paisley on Wednesday. The indictment said Paisley forged a woman’s three checks for $70,000. According to police, Paisley used a 57-year-old woman’s information to forge personal checks between Nov. 21 and Dec. 3. A source said the woman was Paisley’s mother.
Police said Paisley fled the country, but later returned and was arrested Tuesday at Kalakaua Avenue and Kapiolani Boulevard.
Woman, 36, arrested in abuse case
A 36-year-old Kaimuki woman was arrested Thursday after she allegedly abused an 8-year-old boy in front of another child, police said.
The incident happened about 7:15 a.m. Monday. Police arrested the woman at Manoa Elementary School at 4:30 p.m. for investigation of felony abuse of a family or household member and two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor.
