Hawaii-based hotel operator Outrigger Enterprises Group has a new resort in its portfolio about 9,000 miles away in the Maldives.
Outrigger welcomed its first guests Saturday at the 53-villa luxury vacation destination called Outrigger Konotta Maldives Resort on one of the numerous islands in a string of atolls that make up the Maldives, a nation in the Indian Ocean with a population of about 340,000.
Discounted nightly rates to promote the opening start at $419 and rise to $899 on Nov. 1 for the smallest villas, which measure 2,271 square feet.
The resort’s first guests, a family from Dubai, arrived on the island after a 30-minute speed boat ride from the nearest airport, Outrigger said.
Outrigger created its newest resort by acquiring and renovating the former Konotta Island Resort on an island within the Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. The property represents the latest in an expansion for Outrigger over the past three years that has included resort operations in Mauritius, Thailand and Fiji. Outrigger operates about 9,000 rooms among 40 properties.
