Homicide detectives opened an attempted-murder investigation and arrested a 38-year-old Waianae man in connection with a stabbing in Aiea early Monday morning.
Police said the two men know each other, but have not released a motive for the alleged stabbing.
Emergency Medical Services reports that paramedics treated a man, estimated to be in his 30s or 40s, for a stab wound to the abdomen at about 3:05 a.m.
An ambulance took him to the hospital in serious condition from the bike path near the Harbor Center, 98-019 Kamehameha Highway.
Inmate on the lam after furlough
State sheriffs and Honolulu police are looking for a 49-year-old male inmate who failed to return from a scheduled work furlough Saturday. According to the Department of Public Safety, Rene Adriatico was scheduled to return to the Oahu Community Correctional Center at 4:30 p.m.
Adriatico is 5 feet 4 inches tall, 180 pounds, with brown hair and eyes. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call 911.
Dogs rescued from burning house
Honolulu firefighters extinguished a fire in Kapolei and saved two family dogs Sunday morning.
The fire broke out at about 8:52 a.m. at a home at 91-1153 Kamaaha Loop.
Firefighters arriving at the scene saw smoke and flames coming from the two-story multifamily structure and brought the blaze under control by 9:05 a.m. The fire was extinguished at 9:44 a.m.
No one was home, except for the family dogs, when the fire broke out. Damage was estimated at $80,000 to the structure and contents. The cause was under investigation. The Red Cross is helping the couple who lived in the home.
Firefighters help 8 down from trail
Honolulu Fire Department rescue personnel assisted eight people who had difficulty exiting the Koolau Ridgeline Trail near Sacred Falls Valley on Sunday afternoon.
The party was made up of contractors who had spent a week in the valley installing fencing to protect native plants.
As the group was making its way off the trail in advance of predicted bad weather, two of them became unable to continue due to exhaustion. HFD personnel airlifted the workers off the trail. No injuries were reported.
