Pearl City’s Mariel Galdiano lost in a playoff to Elizabeth Wong of San Marino, Calif., on Friday during the 40th Junior PGA Championship at Miramont Country Club in Bryan, Texas.
In the playoff, Wong birdied the par-5 18th hole, while Galdiano, a three-time state champion for Punahou School, had a par.
Both golfers finished at 2-under-par 282. Wong shot a 2-over 73 and Galdiano, who will be a senior, recorded a 72 in the final round.
Kailua’s Malia Nam, a sophomore at Kaiser High School, shot an 80 to finish tied for 29th at 9-over 306.
Moanalua High School senior Kyosuke Hara failed to make the cut in the boys competition.
Maui wins big at Mustang World Series
Nakao Benjamin and Haokeakumehokealani Kekahuna-Tomita combined on a no-hitter and Levi Maddela went 3-for-3 with two home runs as Maui beat Brossard-Youngsville, La., 22-0 in the P.O.N.Y. Mustang (10-U) World Series on Thursday at Youngsville, La.
Maui’s Lakaiya Kahahawai-Kekona and Christopher Mata both finished 4-for-4 with two doubles and Kuhio Aloy went 2-for-3 with a home run.
Maui will play Corpus Christi, Texas, today.
Nobu Yamauchi RBI softball drops pair
Hilo’s Nobu Yamauchi RBI dropped a pair of games during the Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) Softball World Series on Thursday at Southlake, Texas.
Nobu Yamauchi RBI was no-hit by Andrea Scali in an 8-0 loss to Cleveland Baseball Federation RBI in the opener.
In the second game, Harrisburg (Pa.) beat Nobu Yamauchi RBI 2-1. Skylar Thomas singled in Bethany Balucan Batangan in the fourth inning for Nobu Yamauchi RBI’s lone run.
