The Hawai‘i Sacred Choir is looking for children and adults to join the group as it prepares for a singing tour that will take the choir to the National Cathedral.
Choirmaster the Rev. Daniel Werning said in a news release that in addition to singing at three events at the Episcopalian cathedral in July 2016, the group plans to go sightseeing in the Washington, D.C., area and visit a Six Flags theme park.
According to the release, the tour will cost a maximum of $2,950 per person, payable in monthly installments to Seawind Tours.
Werning said the choir is in need of trebles: boys and girls, grades three through eight. Choir practice for that set starts Sept. 26, 9 to 11 a.m., at St. Mary’s Church, 2062 S. King St. The choir is also is looking for teens and adults to sing alto, tenor and bass. Practice for that group will begin Sept. 30 at 6:45 p.m., also at St. Mary’s.
The year’s fee will be $350, about $12 for each lesson.
The only choir composed of children and adults in Hawaii, the Hawai‘i Sacred Choir was formed in 2010 and traveled to England to sing for a week at the medieval Ely Cathedral in July 2014.
