» Red Sox pitcher Steven Wright had the most dominant start of his career Wednesday, holding the rival Yankees to one run on four hits over eight innings, striking out a career-high nine. Wright has won back-to-back starts to improve to 5-4 and lower his ERA from 4.78 to 4.12.
» The Cardinals demoted shortstop Greg Garcia (Hawaii) to Triple-A Memphis on Friday in an effort to bolster their pitching staff.
» Matt Cooper (Hawaii) was promoted to Class A Advanced Winston-Salem, but has yet to make an appearance. In his last two appearances for Kannapolis, Cooper struck out 12 batters in 4 2/3 hitless innings. Cooper didn’t allow a run in his last 11 appearances with Kannapolis and struck out 32 batters in 15 innings during that stretch.
» Michael Suiter (Punahou) has hit in 18 straight games for the Kannapolis Intimidators. He has hit .333 and stolen five bases during the streak.
» The Marlins promoted LJ Brewster to Class A Short Season Batavia on Thursday.
» Jensen Park (‘Iolani) went 1-for-2 Tuesday in the Pioneer League-Northwest League All-Star Game in Spokane, Wash.
