Gunman killed by Maui police identified
The man who shot at Maui police and died after they returned fire Wednesday night in a Kahului park has been identified as Raymond Hodge, 39.
At about 8:50 p.m. three officers responded to a caller in Keopuolani Park who said he had been approached and questioned by a man who produced a badge and claimed to be from U.S. immigration.
When police officers arrived and approached Hodge, he became agitated and then removed a handgun from his waistband and started shooting.
The officers returned fire, leaving Hodge with an estimated 11 wounds from his legs to the top of his torso, police said. Hodge, a Maui resident, died at the scene.
