The Kauai Department of Water will shut down water service for customers on Kapau Road in Koloa from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday so a main waterline in the area can be repaired.
A portion of Waikomo Road will also be closed to through traffic during the water shutdown. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes and allow extra travel time to get to their destinations.
The department will provide available water through a hydrant on the western side of Waikomo Road.
Customers will need to bring their own water containers.
Accidental shooting kills Big Island man
Aaron Kondo, 32, died from an apparent accidental gunshot wound Saturday while checking pig traps off Kekoa Uhane Road on Hawaii island.
According to a news release, detectives determined that Kondo tried to pull a rifle out of his pickup truck’s cab by the barrel. It went off when an item in the truck caught the trigger.
At 8:30 p.m. Saturday, North Kohala police responded to a report in Kapaau of an unconscious man with a hole in his chest, according to the release.
Family members went to check on him when he didn’t return home. They found Kondo next to the truck, unresponsive and wounded on the left side of his chest, the release said.
Fire Department personnel attempted to resuscitate Kondo, who was taken to Kohala Hospital and pronounced dead at 8:55 p.m.
An autopsy is pending.
Suspect charged after a search turns up drugs
A Kona man has been charged with methamphetamine trafficking and other offenses after being found with the drug on Alii Drive in Kailua- Kona.
Friday afternoon, Vice Section officers served a search warrant on 54-year-old James Busche of Kailua-Kona on Alii Drive. They recovered 92.7 grams of a crystalline substance, 7.8 grams of a dried green leafy substance, paraphernalia associated with methamphetamine use and $632 in cash.
Busche was taken to the Kona police cellblock.
At 10:30 a.m. Saturday he was charged with meth trafficking, promoting a detrimental drug and possessing drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $261,000.
