We all scream for ice cream: A Cup of Tea in Kailua is adding ice cream to its repertoire. Beginning Thursday, the beautifully decorated tea joint will turn into an old-fashioned ice cream parlor from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Guests can enjoy items such as The Great Gatsby (a root beer or orange float); Hot Flash (hot fudge sundae); Shake, Rattle and Roll (milkshake); or the Betty Boop ice cream float. "Best of" Eat the Street: Street Grindz Kewalo is debuting Makers & Tasters Kewalo on Aug. 28 at the corner of Ward Avenue and Ala Moana Boulevard, 1011 Ala Moana Blvd. From 5 to 10 p.m., more than 70 vendors will be selling items from Eat the Street’s top four themes: chocolate, bacon, spice and garlic. It’s expected to be the biggest Eat the Street yet, and kicks off a permanent presence for Makers & Tasters — a daily marketplace for fresh food options, with deck seating, nearby parking and even a bar.
Beginning Aug. 29, a rotating group of at least 15 vendors will be selling items in the same area daily. Breakfast will be offered from 6 to 9 a.m.; lunch, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; and dinner, 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
On weekends, brunch will be available from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and dinner from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday and 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
If you happen to show up in between the above hours, no worries, there will be one or two trucks offering items all day. A bar will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. For information, call 772-3020.
In advance of the public event, a Makers & Tasters preview/fundraiser will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, featuring live music; tickets, $150, are available at eventbrite.com. No tickets will be sold at the door.
Summer deal: Morton’s the Steakhouse at Ala Moana Center is closing out summer with a limited-time, three-course meal. For $40 per person, the prix fixe menu gives diners a choice of an appetizer, main course, side dish and dessert. The special continues through Sept. 14. Reserve at 949-1300.
SKY Waikiki opening: Another rooftop dining experience is coming to Oahu, joining Buho Cocina y Cantina (atop the Waikiki Shopping Plaza). SKY Waikiki at the Waikiki Business Plaza is holding a three-day grand opening for its upscale bistro/lounge/nightclub, Aug. 28-30.
An Aug. 28 invitation-only event will create a red-carpet experience, with Brody Jenner, son of Caitlyn (formerly Bruce), as the DJ.
On Aug. 29, Jenner returns to his DJ spot, and the public is invited in to see the high-fashion venue, with its wraparound, cantilevered lanai; 30-foot video wall; custom fire pit; and three bars. Mixologist Jennifer Ackrill will provide the libations, and executive chef Lance Kosaka (also overseeing Top of Waikiki) the dishes that include gourmet pizzas, shrimp, a "perfect cheeseburger" and a variety of desserts. Cover is $10, and the fun runs from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.
