State Rep. James Tokioka has entered into a plea agreement to settle a charge by the state attorney general’s office that he “recklessly” filed inaccurate reports detailing donations to his re-election campaign last year.
According to a complaint filed in Honolulu Circuit Court on Aug. 11, Tokioka allegedly filed candidate committee reports with the Campaign Spending Commission on July 10 and 28 for the 2014 primary that failed to list some contributions.
In a statement released Tuesday evening, Attorney General Doug Chin announced that his office, working in conjunction with the Campaign Spending Commission, determined that Tokioka had filed incomplete reports.
Kristin Izumi-Nitao, executive director of the Campaign Spending Commission, said she is “pleased that the Department of the Attorney General is ensuring that our campaign finance laws are being enforced.”
The agreement requires that Tokioka enter a guilty or no-contest plea, pay $1,000 to the Crime Victim Compensation Fund in lieu of a fine and publish an apology on his campaign Facebook page.
Tokioka is scheduled to appear in Honolulu District Court on Aug. 31.
