Michelle Chen of BYU-Hawaii was selected the PacWest preseason setter of the year in voting by coaches on Tuesday.
Chen, who led the Seasiders to the national title match in 2013, redshirted last year.
BYUH earned four first-place votes in the preseason coaches poll, but finished third behind No. 1 California Baptist and No. 2 Point Loma. Those schools got three first-place votes each. No. 4 Dixie State matched the Seasiders with four first-place votes.
Hawaii Pacific is sixth on the list, followed by Chaminade in ninth and UH-Hilo in 11th.
HPU’s Pomai Recca, who prepped at Kamehameha, was the only other Hawaii player on the preseason all-conference team.
