Renowned chef and restaurateur Roy Yamaguchi will open Roy’s Beach House restaurant at Oahu’s Turtle Bay Resort in the second quarter of 2016.
The restaurant will succeed the current Ola at Turtle Bay, established by Fred DeAngelo, who recently took over operation of Heeia Pier General Store & Deli.
“Roy’s Beach House will be a magnificent new offering to our resort experience,” said Danna Holck, vice president and general manager of the resort, in a news release.
“A warm mahalo goes to Chef Fred and Cheryl DeAngelo and the wonderful team at Ola for the many years of delicious cuisine, superb service and relaxing ambiance they have provided,” Holck continued.
No reason for the new restaurant deal was given.
Ola will close after service Dec. 15.
Disabled Pasha ship to return to LA
The disabled Spirit container ship that was going to be towed 2,000 miles to Honolulu will instead be turned around and brought to Los Angeles, the ship’s operator, Pasha Hawaii, announced Tuesday.
The Spirit encountered a problem with its propeller Sept. 6, one day into what is normally a four-day trip from Los Angeles to Honolulu. Pasha initially informed customers that it planned to have a tugboat tow the vessel the rest of the way, with an estimated Sept. 22 arrival in Honolulu, where cargo would be unloaded and the ship repaired.
Now Pasha said a situation requires that the ship be turned around. It is projected to arrive in Los Angeles Monday.
Affected cargo, including refrigerated containers that have not lost power, will be put on other Pasha ships headed to Honolulu. Pasha said it also has secured space on some vessels of its competitor Matson over the next two weeks.
Pasha operates six ships, including the Spirit and three others it acquired earlier this year from Horizon Lines to expand its Hawaii service.
