Oktoberfest: It’s that time again — for beer, sauerbraten and the "Chicken Dance." A couple of places celebrating the German festival:
>> Gordon Biersch: The Oktoberfest Brewer’s Dinner will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m Tuesday and begin with sauerbraten sliders before moving on to a main course of grilled sausage trio with sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, braised red cabbage and spaetzel. To end the meal, enjoy a double chocolate German cake with stout-infused creme anglaise paired with Dunkles. Cost is $40. Passport members and military with ID: $29.95. Reservations required. >> Hale Koa: Enjoy German food and beverages, a beer hoisting contest and live Oktoberfest band, 5:30 p.m. Sept. 30 through Oct. 3 in the Banyan Tree Brauhaus Showroom, 2055 Kalia Road. Tickets available at 955-9676.
Freebie: Jamba Juice started serving coffee items Monday. Now guests can order 100 percent cold- or hot-brewed Kona coffee, or the Java Dream Machine Smoothie made with 100 percent Kona cold-brewed coffee. Want a taste? The eatery will be giving away one 12-ounce cup of hot coffee per person at all its locations Friday until 9 a.m. or while supplies last.
On the Big Island: If you’re planning a trip to the Big Island this month, check out Mauna Lani Resort’s sixth annual Taste of Mauna Lani. Several restaurants at the resort offer discounted menus, and $2 from each dinner ordered goes to the Hawaii Island Food Basket. The event runs until Sept. 27.
>> Ruth’s Chris Steak House is offering a $50 meal that includes an appetizer, entree of petite filet or lobster tail, side dish and dessert.
>>The Blue Room Brasserie & Bar has a roast beet salad, choice of an entree and dessert for $40.
