Maui’s Justin Keiley took second at the Web.com Tour Pre-Qualifying event, which ended Friday in Woodland, Calif.
Keiley, a Baldwin graduate from Haiku, finished a shot behind medalist Craig McCoy after rounds of 69-70-68. Keiley advances, along with 37 others, to First-Stage Qualifying next month.
The Web.com Qualifying Tournament has replaced the PGA Tour Qualifying School.
Keiley played four years for Brigham Young and won the 2014 John H. Burns Intercollegiate as a senior. In August, he and Wailuku’s Taeksoo Kim tied for eighth at the Siegfried & Jensen Utah Open.
Hawaii’s Dean Wilson, a BYU graduate who won a PGA Tour event and the 1999 Utah Open, was 16th this year.
The last group advancing in California finished at 4-over 217. Kamuela’s Max Bonk just missed, shooting 71-74-73–218. He tied for 39th. There were 84 in the field.
There are four qualifying stages — Pre, First, Second and Final. All 156 who reach the Final Stage in December gain at least conditional status on the 2016 Web.com Tour.
