"Hawaii Five-0"
Season six premiere 8 p.m. Friday on CBS
In honor of Friday night’s sixth-season premiere of "Hawaii Five-0," here are five places around town where McGarrett and the Five-0 team like to have pau hana cocktails on the hit television show.
1. Tropics Bar and Grill Hilton Hawaiian Village
A hot spot during seasons 1 through 4, the full-service restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Tropics also offers nightly music and a torch-lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. On Fridays, you can enjoy the fireworks show over the super pool next to the restaurant. The bar also serves up pupus and cocktails — including the signature Blue Hawaii that Danny (Scott Caan) ordered the first time he and Steve McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) visited the bar in the season 1 episode, "Ko’olauloa." The outside lanai became the place where the gang would come to unwind after a tough case.
2. RumFire Sheraton Waikiki
The new pau hana spot for the Five-0 crew seems to be RumFire lounge. The menu focuses on small plates and Pacific Rim dishes, and a daily fire drill (also known as happy hour) from 4 to 5 p.m. offers drink and pupu specials. While you may not get a chance to be in a scene from "Ua Helele’i ka Hoku" ("Fallen Star)" and see Jerry (Jorge Garcia) croon an Elvis tune or have McGarrett raise his beer in salute when you walk through the doors, the outside lounge offers stellar views of Diamond Head and Waikiki Beach. Come around sunset and it will be worth the cost of a non-happy hour drink. Or two.
3. Mai Tai Bar Royal Hawaiian Hotel
You will feel like you are actually in a scene from "Hawaii Five-0" at this beachside bar, a perfect spot to relax in style. Be like Danny and bring your girl here after work to spring a romantic getaway on her, as he did in "Nanahu." You will be the hero of her heart. If nothing else, it really is a must to have a handcrafted mai tai in the cool shadow of the famous pink hotel.
4. Na Lani Sky Lounge Hokulani Waikiki
A relatively new spot along Waikiki Beach Walk, the Na Lani Sky Lounge is only open from 2 to 8 p.m. daily. But that’s enough time to have a pupu and a drink and enjoy the amazing sunset view from this rooftop oasis. Get your friends to join you around the pool, as the team did in season 4’s "Na Hala a ka Makua" after closing a big case.
5. La Mariana Tiki Bar and Restaurant
Located at Keehi Lagoon, this classic bar may be off the beaten path, but if you want your umbrella drink served in a tiki glass, this is the place to be. For "Hawaii Five-0" fans, La Mariana is where the team’s friend Nicky the Kid, played by recurring cast member Larry Manetti of "Magnum, P.I." fame, tickles the ivories. It’s also where the entire cast gathered to watch McGarrett’s Aunt Deb, the incomparable Carol Burnett, sing for her ohana during the 2013 Thanksgiving episode, "Hau’oli La Ho’omaika’i."
