In her second collegiate meet, University of Hawaii freshman Camille Campos became the first Rainbow Wahine runner to earn Big West Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors.
Campos was UH’s top finisher in the Sundodger Invitational last Saturday in Seattle, completing the 6-kilometer race in 22 minutes, 14.83 seconds while finishing 35th. Her time was 21 seconds under UH’s best 6K time last year and its fastest at that distance since Kevyn Murphy’s 21:48.9 at the 2012 Big West Championships. Murphy was also the last UH runner to pick up a weekly conference honor, earning recognition from the Western Athletic Conference in 2011.
Campos is slated to take a week off from competition while seven Rainbow Wahine runners participate in the 5K BYU-Hawaii Invitational on Saturday in Laie.
