The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office determined Wednesday that the 31-year-old Kalihi man who was the subject of a police pursuit in Kalihi died of a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the chest.
The Medical Examiner’s Office was not releasing any details concerning any other gunshot wound received by the man identified as Mose D. Mose.
On Tuesday, Mose’s family reported to police he was distraught and possibly armed.
Officers initially spotted him at about 2:15 p.m. near Honokai Hale, driving a black Ford Mustang and armed with a firearm.
Officers pursued Mose to Kalihi, where he stopped in front of his parents’ home on Kamehameha IV Road, across the street from Dole Middle School.
Police then surrounded his car and Mose fired one shot and an officer also shot once, police said.
Police said the officer is a 14-year veteran assigned to the Kapolei district.
Mose was placed on supervised release Aug. 13 and was awaiting trial next week on a harassment charge.
A complaint filed May 18 in Honolulu District Court says Mose allegedly struck or otherwise touched Keahi Mamala on May 4, and charged him with harassment, a petty misdemeanor.
A criminal bench warrant had been issued July 31 because he failed to show up in court.
Mose was convicted Aug. 12, 2013, of harassment, and was sentenced to one year of probation. He was also convicted May 27, 2005, of criminal contempt of court, a petty misdemeanor.
