Hawaii’s Sebastian Zietz, Dusty Payne and Granger Larsen were eliminated from the Allianz Billabong Pro at Praia do Guincho, Portugal, on Thursday.
Zietz advanced after a second-place finish (12.63) in his four-man, round-of-48 heat. He finished last in the round of 24 after posting a 4.30.
Payne (10.93) and Larsen (9.30) both finished third in the round of 48.
The event was moved to Praia De Guincho from Cascais because of wave quality.
Koga claims Big West golf honor
Eimi Koga was named Big West Conference Women’s Golfer of the Month after taking medalist honors and leading the University of Hawaii to the team title at the Hobble Creek Fall Classic.
Koga, a junior from Moanalua High School, shot a 1-under-par 141 during the weather-shortened event Sept. 14-15 at Springville, Utah. The final two rounds weren’t played.
The Rainbow Wahine finished at 583 in the 16-team tournament for their first team title in 19 years.
Strickland loses to Gomez in SUP final
Kauai’s Mariko Strickland lost to Izzi Gomez in the final of the U.S. Open of Stand Up Paddling on Thursday at Huntington Beach, Calif.
The 15-year-old Gomez beat Strickland 11.27 to 6.57.
Gomez had clinched her second consecutive Stand Up World Tour title after the semifinal round.
The Huntington event was the season finale after it was announced the final two tour stops — France and Morocco — will not be held.
HPU beats Hawaii Hilo in 4 sets
Elizabeth Culpepper had 18 kills and Pomai Recca added 17 as the Hawaii Pacific volleyball team beat Hawaii Hilo 15-25, 25-21, 25-14, 25-21 on Thursday at Hilo Civic Center.
Tenika Wentworth finished with 39 assists for the Sharks (9-3, 4-0 PacWest).
Morgan Lees had 14 kills and Sienna Davis finished with 28 assists for the Vulcans (4-2, 2-1).
HPU women hold off Fresno Pacific
Noelle Mercado, Erika Ellis and Meghan Cooley scored as the Hawaii Pacific women’s soccer team held off Fresno Pacific 3-2 on Thursday at Atherton Field.
Mercado scored at 6:44, Ellis at 19:57 and Cooley’s goal came at 57:04 for the Sharks (4-4, 1-2 PacWest).
The Sunbirds (4-3, 2-1) scored on Bianka Garcia’s penalty kick at 60:52 and an own goal at 83:20.

Smith scored at 29:26 and McCarthy’s goal came at 74:51 for the Seasiders (1-4-1, 1-1).

Jacob McRae scored two goals as the Brigham Young-Hawaii men’s soccer team defeated Notre Dame de Namur 2-1 at BYUH field.
McRae scored at 7:33 and 61:30 for the Seasiders (3-3, 1-1, PacWest).
Esteban Berumen scored on a free kick at 85:06 for the Argonauts (2-5, 1-2).
