A Maui police officer was arrested Thursday for investigation of felony theft, police said.
Maui police said the 26-year-old officer has been with the force for almost five years.
He was arrested at about 6:40 p.m. for investigation of second-degree theft, a Class C felony punishable by up to five years in prison, and released pending investigation. MPD also opened an administrative investigation and placed the officer on leave.
Firefighters ID lost fisherman
Hawaii island police have identified a 51-year-old fisherman swept to sea by storm surf at Kaloli Point as Joseph M. Leialoha of Hawaiian Paradise Park.
On Wednesday the Hawaii County Fire Department called off the search for Leialoha, who was knocked off a cliff by a wave at about 2:30 p.m. Sept. 26 during high surf brought on by the passing of Tropical Storm Niala south of Hawaii island.
3 arrested in car break-in
Maui police have arrested three teenage boys in connection with a car break-in caught on video.
A 15-year-old Makawao boy and two Haiku boys, ages 13 and 16, were arrested in connection with the incident, Maui police said Thursday.
Police said the break-in was captured on video, posted to social media sites and viewed numerous times. Police said the boys were identified with the public’s assistance and through the investigation.
