Challen Faamatau ran for 114 yards and three touchdowns and the Governors secured the second seed in the OIA Blue with a 21-14 win over the Sabers in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader at Aloha Stadium.
The win also gave Farrington (7-2, 5-2) a bye in the first round of the OIA Division I playoffs.
"That was one of our team goals, first-round bye," Farrington coach Randall Okimoto said. "Everybody needed it. Players, coaches, everybody."
Campbell closed the regular season at 1-7 overall and 1-6 in the division, but secured the OIA Blue’s final playoff berth on Friday with Kapolei’s win over Aiea. The Sabers face Kaiser in the first round.
Farrington pounced on two Campbell miscues to take control of the regular-season finale.
A high snap on a Campbell punt gave Farrington possession at the Sabers’ 4 with 3:37 left in the second quarter.
After a Campbell penalty, Faamatau broke though with a 2-yard touchdown run. Jathen Chaffin, the holder on the extra-point attempt, then picked up the ball and ran it in for a 2-point conversion and the Governors took the 8-0 lead into halftime.
