A section of Eiwa Street adjacent to the Hardy Street intersection in Lihue will be closed today for repaving to convert the road into a transit mall.
Work hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
While the work is underway, The Kauai Bus will be rerouted through the Lihue Civic Center parking lot. The pickup/drop-off point on Eiwa Street will be at the parking lot side of the current location.
In addition, no parking will be allowed in the row of stalls closest to the Eiwa and Hardy streets intersection in the Lihue Civic Center parking lot.
The mall is being constructed to make it safer and more convenient for transit riders, pedestrians and bicyclists while still allowing one-way travel for motor vehicles, Kauai County officials said in a news release.
