The UH swimming and diving teams open the season with a trip to Los Angeles to take on nationally ranked Southern California this weekend.
The Rainbow Wahine also will compete against No. 13 North Carolina State along with No. 20 USC in a tri-meet Friday and Saturday at Uytengsu Aquatics Center. The UH men will swim against the 22nd-ranked Trojans both days.
The Wahine enter the season as the defending Mountain Pacific Sports Federation champions led by three-time MPSF Diver of the Year Aimee Harrison and two-time MPSF champion Lauren Hall. The Wahine also return MPSF Freshman of the Year Kira Webster, who swam on UH’s victorious 800 freestyle relay team and placed second in the 1,650 free and third in the 500 free at the MPSF Championships in February.
The Rainbow Warriors return junior Victor Goicoechea, the reigning MPSF champion in the 200-, 500- and 1,650-yard freestyle, and diver Amund Gismervik, who swept the MPSF diving titles on his way to a second straight appearance at the NCAA championships.
The USC men’s team finished fourth at the NCAA championships and the women in eighth.
