Farrington’s defense shut down Campbell.

William Prescott had two interceptions and returned one of them for a touchdown as No. 8 Farrington beat Campbell 28-0 in the quarterfinals of the OIA playoffs at Roosevelt on Saturday.

The Governors (7-2) face Kahuku in the semifinals. Campbell ends its season at 2-8.

"It’s a blessing. We’ve just got to keep pushing forward and play our best," Prescott said.

Prescott’s 72-yard interception return gave the Governors an 18-0 lead with 10:57 left in the third quarter. Prescott picked off a pass by Kawika Ulufale and weaved through several Campbell players en route to the end zone. It was Prescott’s second interception of the game and indicative of the way Farrington kept Campbell from advancing down the field.

"It was a game changer," Prescott said. "Helping the team out a bit more and helping the offense … just being more disciplined."

The Governors were expecting another close game against the Sabers. Farrington edged Campbell 21-14 in their Oct. 3 meeting.

"All week long we’ve been preparing hard because we knew Campbell was going to come back hard since they lost to us," said Farrington defensive lineman Tainano Gualua. "We knew if we worked hard, it would pay off. All the running, all the up downs we did paid off today."

Gualua sacked Ulufale three times in the first half. Ulufale completed his first six passes before finishing 10-for-20 in the first half.

"It was hardmouth (football)," Gualua said. "Coach told us to be humble on the field and play with faith and we got each other’s back from left to right."

Campbell advanced to the Farrington 2-yard line late in the game. But Foi Sila sacked Ulufale twice and an illegal procedure call prevented the Sabers from scoring.

The game was stopped for about 20 minutes after Campbell’s Noah Empron went down with an injury in the third quarter. Empron left in an ambulance. The injury happened during Bishop Rapoza’s 43-yard touchdown pass to Kingston Moses-Sanchez that gave Farrington a 27-0 lead with 55 seconds remaining.

Challen Faamatau scored both of Farrington’s touchdowns in the second quarter. He put the Governors up 6-0 on his 1-yard score with 10:09 left. Farrington’s defense then forced Campbell to go three-and-out and on Campbell’s punt from the 12-yard line, the ball didn’t gain much yardage in the air and bounced back to the 3. Faamatau then carried it into the end zone for the short score and a 12-0 lead with 9:11 remaining.

Radford 23, Waialua 6

Ace Faumui ran in two touchdowns to lead the Rams over the Bulldogs in the OIA Division II semifinals.

Faumui posted his seventh game over 100 yards rushing, with a 119-yard performance on 15 carries. Radford’s defense also stepped up, as the Rams held Waialua (5-5) to less than 50 yards of total offense and just six points.

Lancen Kuni picked off two interceptions for the Bulldogs, including a 36-yard return to set up Waialua’s only score.

The undefeated Rams (10-0) will face Kaimuki (7-3) on Oct. 30 at Aloha Stadium for the Division II championship.
