One of two sets of remains discovered by firefighters Oct. 7 while conducting training exercises near the Pali Lookout is that of a Waianae woman who disappeared along with her husband nearly two years ago.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified the remains as those of Toby Crossman, who was 26 when she was reported missing. The couple were last seen Nov. 3, 2013, at their Waianae home.
A CrimeStoppers bulletin issued Nov. 6, 2013, said the Crossmans were emotionally distraught and that family and friends expressed concern for their safety and well-being. Crossman’s husband, Carl Crossman, was 33 when he was reported missing.
A cause of Toby Crossman’s death has not yet been determined.
The Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet identified the second set of remains.
Protective vest is donated to HPD canine
Zero, a Honolulu Police Department canine unit member, will get a bullet- and stab-resistant vest thanks to an anonymous donor.
The Belgian Malinois will be the ninth Honolulu police dog to be custom-fitted for a vest, according to a story on the Honolulu Police Department website.
“Our canines are highly trained and an invaluable asset in fighting crime and protecting the community and our officers,” said Maj. Darren Chun, commander of the Specialized Services Division, in the online story.
“Providing protective vests for our canines is crucial because they face some of the same risks as our officers,” Chun said.
The custom-made vests have a retail value of $1,795 to $2,234, according to Sandy Marcal, president of Vested Interest in K9s Inc., the nonprofit organization that arranged for the donation.
