The Hawaii Pacific women’s soccer team fell apart in the second half, surrendering all four goals to California Baptist in a 4-0 loss. Justene Kesterson led the Lancers with two goals.
>> In the men’s matchup between the schools, HPU pulled out a 3-1 win, led by Sven Koenig’s two second-half goals.
>> BYU-Hawaii’s men’s and women’s soccer teams suffered narrow road losses to Point Loma. The women lost 2-0, while the men lost 1-0 in double overtime.
>> A Gabby Medina goal in the eighth minute proved to be enough for Dixie State as the Red Storm shutout the Chaminade men 1-0. In the women’s match, the Silverswords could not overcome the Red Storm attack in a 3-1 loss, with Jasmine Arollo scoring two goals. Kelli Fryxell scored the lone goal for the Silverswords.
>> The Hawaii Hilo men’s soccer team saw its rally fall short in a 4-2 loss to Azusa Pacific. Down 3-0, Cristian Ruelas and Jamie Sporcic each scored within five minutes, but Keenan Armbrust put the game away with a goal in the 86th minute.
>> The UHH women lost 3-0 to the Cougars, who were led by Haley Fisher’s two goals.
UH cross country finishes seventh
The University of Hawaii’s cross country team placed seventh out of nine teams at the Big West championships on Saturday. The Wahine were paced by Montana Martinez’s 6k time of 21:36.72, good for 22nd out of 71 runners.
Cal Poly took the team title, while UC Riverside’s Faith Makau took first with a time of 20:27.50.
Hawaii teams wrap up play in invitational
Cal State Monterey Bay won the 10th annual Dennis Rose Invitational by 27 strokes on Saturday at Waikoloa Kings’ Course. UC San Diego’s Clayton Yamaguchi won the individual title with a three-round total of 209.
Hawaii Hilo finished fifth, while Chaminade and Hawaii Pacific were in ninth and 10th. UHH’s James Coon was the top finisher among the Hawaii PacWest schools, finishing in an eighth-place tie among 56 golfers.
