Fire sprinklers are credited with helping contain the spread of a two-alarm fire in a five-story commercial building in Kalihi Tuesday night.
The fire broke out at about 10:12 p.m. at the Waikamilo Business Center at 420 Waikamilo Road, according to Fire Capt. David Jenkins.
Arriving firefighters saw heavy smoke coming from the garage area, Jenkins said in an email.
"Several fire sprinklers were activated and contributed in suppressing the flames," Jenkins said.
The fire was contained to a ground-floor unit and was extinguished by 10:55 p.m.
Operations continued to vent smoke and remove water from the building.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimate was immediately available.
