Police were looking for suspects after two businesses were robbed Wednesday night — one by a man wearing a Halloween mask.
The first robbery involved a man wearing a mask at Baskin-Robbins on South King Street.
Police dispatch said the man entered the ice cream shop at about 8:30 p.m. and displayed a handgun. According to a dispatch communication, the man was wearing a scary Halloween mask.
About 45 minutes later a man entered a Nuuanu gas station, brandished a dangerous instrument and demanded money from the cashier, police said.
He fled in an unknown direction.
Police opened two cases of first-degree robbery.
Head injuries caused death
Hawaii County police said Thursday an autopsy determined that a 62-year-old Ocean View man died from head injuries sustained Saturday when he was thrown from the motorcycle he was driving on Mamalahoa Highway in Kona.
Police said David Morse was driving a 2003 Honda motorcycle south on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) just north of the 93-mile marker when he failed to make it around a turn.
His motorcycle ran off the roadway and down a large embankment, and he was thrown from the bike.
He was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:20 p.m. Police said speed and inattention may have been factors in the crash.
This is the 17th Hawaii County traffic fatality this year compared with 11 at this time last year.
