Traffic investigators today said speed was a factor that left two men in critical condition Tuesday after a head-on crash in Kaneohe.

Police said the collision happened about 8 p.m. at the intersection of Kaneohe Bay Drive and Makalani Street.

A 47-year-old man was traveling north on Kaneohe Bay Drive and making a left turn into Maklani street when he was hit by a car coming from the opposite direction. The 47-year-old driver was taken to the hospital in serious condition, Emergency Medical Services reported.

The driver and passenger in the south-bound car, both men, ages 20 and 22, were treated by paramedics and taken to a hospital in critical condition, according to the Honolulu Emergency Services Department.

Police closed Kaneohe Bay Drive at the intersection with Aumoku Street to investigate.
